Breast Cancer Awareness and Treatment

9

Breast cancer is one of the world’s most widespread cancers and constitutes a major public health concern.

In Tunisia, for example, one in twenty-five women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, with tumors of 1.8 inches on average at the time of diagnosis. The rate of radical mastectomy is 80%, while the rate across Europe is 20%.

It is quite probable that many cases of breast cancer in Tunisia are not diagnosed and thus not treated.

For this reason, it is very important that Tunisian institutions receive the support they need to ensure than its disadvantaged populations have access to the quality medical care that saves lives.

In Tunisia, the work of the European Cancer Centers Foundation is focused on two goals :

  • Free breast cancer screening campaigns :
  • The Foundation will set up digital mammography screening programs as soon as the European Cancer Centers’ Tunisia Center opens.

  • Development of free health care campaigns :
  • The Foundation will implement free health care treatment campaigns targeting disadvantaged populations, thus making treatment available to patients selected according to need, as defined by an independent Ethics Committee.
